The Old Testament Israelites had a tent.  A special tent to be sure.  For in it resided God.  But even though it was there for all the people, only a few could enter it.  The first room of the tent was the Holy Place.  The priests entered there every day to worship and offer sacrifices.  Beyond that lie the Most Holy Place, where the Ark of the Covenant was, and God said He would be present.  Only the High Priest could enter there, only one time a year, and only to offer a sacrifice for himself, and one for the people for the sins they did not knowingly commit.

Have you ever read the books of Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy?  No, I mean actually read them…not skimmed them.  Do you know how many sacrifices needed to be made…daily?  How many bulls, goats, sheep, etc. were slain for the sins of the people of Israel?  I often think that the priests must have just spent every day, all day long, killing one animal after another.  Pouring the blood out here, or sprinkling it there.  Burning this part of the animal, but removing this other part from the camp.  Day after day.  Year after year.  Can you imagine?  Honestly, it had to get pretty old…and gross!  And you know what the thing about it all is?  All that blood and gore didn’t forgive the sins of the people (Hebrews 10:4)!  What in the world was it all for?  I swear it was just to make a point.  You are sinful, and you can’t save yourself.  No really.  Look at all the rules!!!!  And then this exercise in futility with all the sacrificing!

But then God did something amazing…like He always does…but this was like the ultimate in amazing.  He sent a sacrifice whose blood actually could forgive sins!  And the kicker?  The sacrifice was just one life, that only had to die one time, and His blood would forgive the sins of absolutely every person in the world from then until eternity, so long as they received it.  KERPOW!  The power-packed, extreme ultimate, hyper, nitrous-loaded blood of JESUS!!!!  And if the one-blood-covers-all wasn’t enough, there were bonuses!  Remember the tent?  The Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place?  Only the High Priest could enter the presence of God, and only once a year.  There was a curtain that hung between the two places.  When Jesus died, He took on the role of that curtain (Hebrews 10:19-20).  Because of the power of the blood of His sacrifice we, anyone, at any time, can go through Jesus into the very presence of God!  We can walk in there, drop to our knees and hand our lives over to Him every day of the year, and more than once a day, if we want!

Hebrews 10:17 (NCV) – Then He says:  “Their sins and the evil things they do–I will not remember anymore.”  Oh yah!!!  Bonus number two.  All these sins I battle every day, that leave me frustrated, and fatigued, are not only forgiven, but FORGOTTEN.  FORGOTTEN!!!!!!  By the God of the universe who knows all things.  The perfect, not-a-flaw-in-Him God, forgets our sins.  That is beyond comprehension!

Bonus number three?  The promise, and process, of salvation.  Accepting the blood and sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins is only the beginning in the salvation process.  Hebrews 10:14 – “With one sacrifice He made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”  Not “have been.”  “BEING.”  Whew!!!  Thank God that is a process!  Because if salvation meant that I am holy, I have missed the mark terribly!  No.  Praise Him!  Praise Him!  Praise Him!  Because He is making me holy!!!  But that, of course is not all.  The being made holy thing is not just a never-ending process.  There is a conclusion when my salvation will be made complete.  It will be a done deal.  Hebrews 9:28 – “So Christ was offered as a sacrifice one time to take away the sins of many people.  And He will come a second time, not to offer Himself for sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.”  That’s it.  The completion of the process.  We accept the gift of Christ’s sacrifice.  We are then being made holy.  Finally, Christ returns to earth to take us to be with Him…and our salvation is complete.   Done.  Finished.  Perfection.

The best news of all?  That time of completion is near!  Very near!  Keep heart Brothers and Sisters in Christ!  His words to me…”It won’t be long now.”  The process is nearly over!  We will be made holy, and our salvation will be complete!  We will kneel in the presence of God, not just in spirit, but in our new, pure bodies…right there!  In His glory!!!  Hallelujah!!!!!!!

Come Lord Jesus!!!!!!
